Template Tutorial: The Basics

Step One: A new template

You will find that creating a new template is very similar to creating a new web site. You will combine HTML and image files to create pages in much the same way, with the addition of using a small programming language to generate the maps and images that make up your photo map.

Locate the templates

On startup, 93 Photo Street reads the directories under its Template directory and treats each directory as a new template. For example, 93 Photo Street ships with a template named "Old Style Map" and you will find that there is a directory with the same name in Templates.

To find your Templates directory:

The templates directory moved in 93 Photo Street V1.2. Please download this free update if you are using an older version.

Create a new template directory

Pick a name for your template and create a directory in the Templates directory with that name, in our example case we use "Basic Tutorial" as the name. Now start 93 Photo Street and load or create a photo map. When you bring up the Build Site window (via the menu: Build->Build with velocity templates...) you should pick your new template from the list of available templates.

Now that we have created a template and chosen it for our photo map, we can go on to the next step and create an HTML page.
